This literature review explores the evolving landscape of democratic transitions in the 21st century within academia, with a particular focus on the influence of digital technology and access to information. The author examines the role and impact of factors such as primary education, civil liberties, income, and internet access in three types of democratic transition: conversion, collapse, and cooperative. Drawing upon extensive literature, the author scrutinizes the ways in which the aforementioned factors shape the power dynamics between opposition and incumbents, which have a significant impact on democratic transition and maintenance. The author concludes her investigation with an emphasis on the need for systematic analysis of the relationship between digital access, freedom of information, and democratization.
